Cambridge guidance describes cumulative guided learning hours from beginner level. These are planning ranges, not guaranteed completion times, and the ranges should not be subtracted from one another.

Place by level

Students enter through school evidence, a free teacher assessment or a Cambridge Placement Test when the level is unclear.

Prepare deliberately

B2 and C1 add dedicated Use of English work alongside reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Progress to proof

Cambridge English awards the official certificate for the level demonstrated in the external exam.

Who this pathway is for

The Cambridge Pathway is designed for students currently in school who want a recognised external English qualification and are ready to follow a structured school-year programme.

This is not an adult course. Adult learners should contact Step Up for the English Pathway or private support that best fits their goals.

The English Pathway bridge

Students can build their level first through the Step Up English Pathway. Reaching Mastery at one level signals readiness to be assessed for the Cambridge stage above. For example, B1 Mastery creates a clear bridge towards B2 First for Schools.

Cambridge Pathway FAQ

Is the Cambridge Pathway organised by age?

No. Students join the stage that matches their current English level. School records, a free teacher assessment or a Cambridge Placement Test may be used to confirm the right starting point.

How long does one Cambridge stage take?

Each stage follows one school year, from September to June. The pathway is deliberately structured so students build the guided learning hours and exam skills required at each level.

Does Step Up issue Cambridge certificates?

No. Step Up prepares students for Cambridge English Qualifications. Official exams and certificates are managed through Cambridge-authorised examination routes.

What is included in the preparation?

Students receive structured weekly teaching, four timed mock exams, teacher feedback, a coursebook and clear readiness guidance. Groups are capped at 10 students.
